I did have to set gmail to allow for less secure apps. Try the telnet and other checks in the guide. If the connection times out, there's not really anything PHPMailer can say as there is no other info.

WillyPt Lackage added an edit with my code using the suggestion you posted and still get the same problem. However this only happens with office when I change the smtp fr to gmail then I at least get php errors on the page.

The correct fix for this is to replace the invalid, misconfigured or self-signed certificate with a good one. This would solve it for most people who have the problem though. Stack Overflow for Teams is a private, secure spot for you and your coworkers to find and share information.

When the script runs the site then hangs for a while then gives a says server timed out and nothing else. It doesn't work on the live server hosted by rackspace. Time outs are usually network problems - DNS and firewall.

The worst part is I'm not even getting any errors and paciage logs show nothing.
